From our point of view, a side trip is highly recommended. Not only the nice local staff was the absolute hit when we visited, but also the good atmosphere. The decoration on the tables and in the entire restaurant is decent and tasteful. The toilet is always clean and all in all the place gives a charming impression, it has never happened to us that a dish came cold on the table. The selection of drinks also leaves nothing to be desired.

Located directly on the German-French border between Saarbrücken / Gersweiler (Germany) and Schöneck (France) you will find the restaurant Valuta. In the premises there is a gastronomy since 1899. Since 1979, the restaurant is operated as a family business in the second generation by Thomas Schütz. The currency has established itself as one of the best restaurants in Saarland. That was also the reason to finally take the opportunity and pay a visit to Valuta. The ambience: From the outside, the currency makes a welcoming impression. Solely, the parking situation has some potential for optimization. After entering the premises you feel right at home. Pleasant warm shades and a simple, yet stylish decor, invite you to linger. The friendly / warm welcome by the service staff and the direct allocation of the reserved table attest that the guest is not only regarded as a paying service recipient. The food: The menu is rather small and simple, but also testifies to a bit of exclusivity in the selection of ingredients. In addition to the dishes listed on the menu, there are still a few daily recommendations that come from the selected sources of supply of the operator. Today, the currency still had a small number of chops from the local pig, or even well-hung Entre Côte from the Argentine Black Angus beef. I chose the Black Angus. That was a very good decision. I got a perfectly medium rare Entre Côte on a whiskey pepper sauce. Here, a top Islay whiskey was used, which with its smokiness, the grill / roast flavors of the meat perfectly supported. The service: The service was more than adequate to the category of the restaurant. Adjectives such as competent, friendly, always there when needed, never intrusive, ... are just a few points to emphasize here. Here you can also see that there is a clear structure in the service landscape. The allocation of service forces to areas and tables leaves even with a high guest attendance, like today no reason for complaints. The drinks: The service staff was very well trained in the advice to the wine accompaniments for the dishes. Conclusion: A top address for a special culinary experience. We had booked and reserved the table buffet online on Good Friday. That worked well. All fish dishes were without exception delicious and also very attractively presented. The staff was courteous and competent in advising which wine went well with the dish and personal preference. We are full and satisfied at home. Conclusion: absolutely recommendable.
